Our A/C goes out on Saturday and we're faced with 100+ degree days on Sat and Sun and there aren't any techs working on the weekend.  Hope we can get one here tomorrow morning.

My guess is the compressor motor is shot.  There is a distinct power draw every few minutes that lasts for about a second.  But no cold air.  I think whatever is drawing that power isn't able to start up what it's trying to start.  Only thing that works is the fan.  That doesn't help when it's this hot!

We've got a bunch of fans running in windows to try to pull the outside air in and through the house.  It's down to about 80 outside right now and we're at about that in the house.  It'll get cool later, but it's still several hours away.

Trying to sleep like this is tough.  And to make it worse, my 20month old daughter is sick and can't sleep either.

ARG!  Hope they can fix it tomorrow!

Hay Doc,

I'd a thought you of all cowboys would have a backup!

I don't have a/c these days,  but in my old location I kept a window a/c in the shed for emergencies, like sleeping in a hot bedroom....

I live in a 24 X 60 double wide Mobile Home.  In  the winter they are nice and cozy, but in the summer if they don't have an AC unit they arr a bloody oven!  I have discovered that with well placed fans one can keep it fairly cool.

Badlands Walker

Hope this helps Doc.  Think ice, snow, cold, North Pole, ice cream, etc.....

Howdy Doc, I don't envy you pard. Too bad there aren't any good movies out, you could go watch one and cool off.
You know the majority of homes in Sac and maybe even in your section have a small box that has a thin small antenna attached to it. This box allows the power company to prevent your A/c from coming on but for a few minutes per hour in case they get overloaded. I know it is silly, but they do have them and they can go bad too. However, you do get a reduced billing for allowing them to install that cutout device on an A/C compressor. You might check into that one. It could be installed and you are unaware and since it has been so warm, there could have been some large useage.
Stay cool pard. Cooler weather heading your way. :)

Howdy, there's not one of those devices on our unit.

Tech just left.  The control board is burnt out and they need to order a replacement.  How does one of those things burn out?  It's a pretty darn expensive part too.  Once that's installed, it may turn out that there's more wrong.

He said that they'll keep me apprised of the situation, but thinks they'll be able to have it installed by Thursday.

It's a little cooler today, only supposed to hit 91.  And my daughter is feeling better.  We were all able to get some sleep last night.

Glad yer daughter is feeling better !   Must be really miserable for her  :(

Good thing that it's at least cooled off a couple o' degrees for ya.  Too bad ya didn't live closer, Drifter coulda probaby had it all fixed for ya by now.
Hope it gets back up and runner real quick !

Take care,
Shell-E

Shell-E, the first person I thought of was Drifter!  But you're just too far away for a housecall.
