Hi everyone
I have just bought a Waterbuffalo whole hide to make a moneybelt after applying dye the whole thing has gone white, this rubs off very easy but comes back again, it seems to be salt but im not 100%
i used some different leather at the same time for the shell loops and this is fine so i dont think its the dye at fault
is there anything i should be doing with the hide as it is or with the finished belt, any advice would be great

thank you
john

salt should taste like "salt".

It is water soulable, so soaking it a bit should rinse it out.  The fact that it is dyed already might cause some issues with the dye leaching out... it may have to be redone, or maybe not

Hi Guy's
im not sure if it is Lye is this something that would be used in the curing process, it tastes like salt but not to strong and is a very fine powder
after letting the belt dry and rubbing often  it has stopped coming through but has left stain like marks but after another coat of  dye it's not to bad, i think it made it look a little aged so that all good.
i will try another piece but this time i will give it a good wash first
thanks again for the help

john
