I have a couple of questions about the EAA Bountyhunter revolver. I have a pair of them in .45 LC and i love them, but I have a little trouble reaching for the top of the hammer to cock them. I guess that I could lower the hammer myself by putting a cut in it and them bending, sorry, reforming it and then welding it back up, but is that practical or even feasable? I'm not too sure what that would do to the temper of the metal in the hammer. Do the Ruger Super Blackhawk/Montado hammers interchange with them? Is there a lowered, widened hammer available as a drop in replacement? It is a Colt SAA clone and the springs interchange but I don't know what other parts, if any will interchange with it.

I have succesfully been "reprofiling" hammers for quite some time......
Here is a pic of an 1860 that I did for myself:

While it's not feasable to make them wider I can definately make them lower (and checkered coarse or fine).

OOOO, OOOO, OOOO! Reprofiling, what a good word to use. Can I borrow that term? I was thinking of putting a cut in it, bend it down to close up the cut and then weld it, but it looks like you just heated it up and "reprofiled it" (with a big hammer?). That sounds  a lot easier and less risky than what I had in mind. I'll think that one over.

Because of the shape and profile of the hammer spur you have to rmove material from the back side before you try bending it.
It simply will not bend in that thick area if you don't.............

Be careful that you provide for some kind of heat sink also as it will have to get RED before you can bend it (it will snap off if not really orange-red) and it is easy to lose hardness at the sear.

There are more pics at my website........
