Hello SSS,

For sale is my M1860 Spencer rifle. I was part of the N-SSA about 20 years ago, and just purchased this Spencer from another shooter who's been out of the N-SSA for just a couple of years. S/N on this Spencer is 9481. Couldn't find an exact S/N match, but 9501 was issued to a member of the 5th Independent Company of Ohio Volunteers (Sharpshooters) on August 16, 1863 (thanks, Two Flints).

The previous owner said that the barrel had been relined. It has also been converted for centerfire. I did remove the stock to check the S/N on the barrel and it matched the one on the receiver. It's in great shape with a nice patina. Looks like the rear sight might be a replacement. There's a very slight amount of wiggle in the lever. Not sure if this is normal, but I suspect so.

Lots more pics available by request.

Anyone know what that symbol means, as pointed to by the red arrow? Two Flints

The "&" symbol means that the center fire conversion block was made by S & S Firearms in New York.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

Gradoon - have you got a shot of the bore and breech (opened)? Also I take it that the loading rod works fine. When lined, did the rifle stay at 56-56 or was it converted to 56-50?

I am asking because I am interested.

thanks

Do you have the original breech block or just the centerfire block?
