I have also purchased the new lots of KIK from Powder Inc. I purchased 10 pounds in December and the lot was 3910 which is the same that Ranch 13 has along with John Boy.
It shoots very clean and is a good buy,so much so that I have more coming.
The cheapest powder to buy for SASS shotgun is Diamondback that is made in Brazil. The Back Creek Shop in Winchester, Va. sells it for $10 a pound plus Haxmat.
The Diamondback is not a bad powder as far as I'm concerned for SASS shooting. I used several pounds of it and use it in my shotgun in 2F.
If you are going to purchase just one grade for SASS then I would do as Mako posted and use 2F. It will fit for the proper size to use in several more calibers than 3F. It also provides less recoil which means faster follow up shots. That last part I don't worry about as I load 34 grains in my 44-40 cases for match use. I laugh when I shoot from a covered area and all the other shooters leave.
I had a bunch of 3F and mixed it pound for pound with 2F for SASS matches with great results. Shot real clean in all my guns including shotgun.
It is a huge waste of money to use any of the top grade powders to load for SASS shotgun. I would never shoot a sub for any amount of money and the price of Diamond Back is perfect.
If I load for the long range side matches I then use the Goex Cartridge or Swiss 1 1/2 or 2F. I will also start using the KIK for that also.
I just finished loading 50 44-40 balloon head cases with 40 grains of KIK 2F and 50 cases of Starline with the same amount for our 250 yard Buffalo shoot.
