A Better Cutoff Saw for Cutting Brass? *** Photos Added ***

Hi All,

I noticed Harbor Freight had a 6" cutoff saw that looks like it would be a better bet than the 2" one.  I plan to stop by my local store and see what it looks like.

[Two Flints]

The 6" Chop Saw looks too big for cutting 50-70 brass, I'll stick to the 2" model and my "Two Flints" Hard Wood jig (thanks to Perry Owens for his help).  I apologize for hijacking your thread!

This is my "Two Flints" Jig.

    Jig Set Up and Ready to Cut 50-70 Brass.  I added a plywood base to the chop saw base to make it level to the area where the jig attaches in the vise.  The chop saw sits on a larger plywood base for more stability.


     This is the jig. The cutaway section represents the amount of waste brass that will be cut from the 50-70 Starline brass, leaving the almost correct size of brass case to be custom cut by my Forster Classic Brass Trimmer.


     I added a brass sheet to the bottom of the jig for additional strength.


     The original length 50-70 Starline fits just fine into this 9/16" hole.

     The plywood base board and the raised area just ahead of the vise are the same height.

    After the jig and chop saw were ready for brass cutting, I was waiting on my Forster Classic Brass Trimmer.  Forster sent it out to me on December 13, but USPS lost it, and then mis-delivered it once it was found by USPS.  Finally, I received the Forster on December 29.  This is it with the accessories I ordered.



I ordered my Classic Trimmer directly from Forster.  They sold it to me with the shorter 5 3/8" base, and I also needed a #5 Collet (CT2005) and Pilot #513 (CT1513) to trim 50-70 brass. A Collet #6 (CT2006) and custom made special .508" diameter Pilot for a .512" diameter bullet was also ordered to trim 56-50 Spencer brass.  The 56-50 Collet and Pilot are shown to the right of the Forster.  The 50-70 Collet and Pilot have already been installed in the Forster.
