I have a question for those that have experience with the SASS Ruger NV's. I know that you can order them from various gunsmiths with FFL's and have them gone over with their action works as well.Just how necessary is it to have the work done to them when I have heard that they do well right out of the box? I haven't had the opportunity to try them out so I don't know just how good that they really are.

Tk Ray:

They may seem a might smoother than other new Vaq's just because they have a lower and wider hammer than "stock".
If you are not a super-experienced shooter trying to cut microseconds off of your stage time, I'd recommend just adding some lighter hammer (& maybe trigger) return springs to start off with.

The springs are already pretty light in the New Vaqueros. WM

I got a pair of SASS NMV's this spring, put in Wolff springs and been shooting them ever since. I've worked th action on a couple of professionally slicked ones and it's hard for me to tell the difference.

Thanks for your input on the SASS NV's. I am still kicking the thougt of owning a pair of them or just may go with the standard blued NV and replace the springs in them myself.I'd like to put the lower SBH 's in them but I see that the hammers are hard to locate or unavailable.

I bought a couple of them this year in 45 colt (not the SASS special edition pair, but the standard ones in Stainless).

I have had quite a few Ruger revolvers, but these were my first exposure to the New Vaquero.

There are a few things that Rugers always seem to need done to them. I went to do it to these and found that it was already done by the factory. They totally got their act together on this model.

You just take them out of the box and shoot them.

Sooner, or later, you're going to need a good relationship with a good gunsmith if you shoot Rugers.

You're way ahead of the game if you purchase them from a good gunsmith.  The enlarged sights and forcing cone alone are worth the cost of an action job.

A really good smith can do magic on Rugers and you'll tell a significant difference between their pistols and stock ones.

But, you can shoot them successfully out of the box -- assuming they work out of the box.

While looking at the Sass Ruger Vaqueros on the internet, the wife decided that those are what she wanted for Christmas too. So, instead of me ending up with them, she ended up with them.I then decided to order a blue RNV to pair up with the one I already had.
Out of the box,her new revolvers were smooth and right on accurate. They didn't show the low left grouping that my own RNV showed when I first fired it at the targets.Instead, they both printed dead center on verical and an inch or so low.Not bad for my tastes. I like the lower hammers on her's . I ordered a Wolf spring set for mine and that sure made a bit of a difference after I installed them. Now,all I need for my Rugers are a set of stag or ivory grips.I don't like the idea of sending my grip frames off to somebody to custom fit the grips though.Anybody know of a good place to order from?

I bought a gem of a NV today. A crazy smooth action that was hands down shocking.  They tried to switcheroo and give me another from the back. Nope! I said I want the display model and after a short debate I got it. It's a 4 5/8" stainless model that isn't wearing the same springs as all my other Rugers. I can't wait to shoot it and make it my new carry gun depending on how well I shoot it.
