Im limited to 4 pictures per post on this forum so im uploading the photos to photobucket its being done now the link should be www.photobucket.com/spencercarbine if not ill be sure to repost the link, if there is a request for anything i didnt snap well let me know and ill try again on that particular area. i managed to get a shot showing the serial but all but one attempt to get the stamp on the top of the receiver come out washed, even in person you can juuuust read boston and a S stamp. also i do have a holster of some kind stamped rock island arsenal so that might allude to its history. i also did my best to get a shot of the barrel where the sleeve is visible  that lead me to believe this was a Springfield refit

i will add i dont have the best lighting and i was using my cell phone camera. the flash tends to reflect of even the smallest imperfection and in person it looks alot cleaner. This was hidden away in the parents closet for a few decades and the white streaks you can see are just from rubbing against the wall im sure they will come off with a gentle thumb rub. also can someone recommend a gun lube for it im not sure if there is any particular one better suited for an antique like this, there did appear to be some left but i dont wanna handle it to much and cause it any damage i hope to get it shooting someday soon.

ill push them over to the email in your profile, do my best about the resize but my camera shoots much higher and its lowest setting its still well above 8x6 gmail might resize them though. also if you take a look at the sight it differs from the others ive seen. replacement?

PS - Tried on 3 different email to get it to you, your email host must have a very low message size cap....it took me almost an hour to get them all online i hope you'll still take a peak ill try to send again later after downloading some resizing software but not right this moment probably  tomorrow after work

I realy like that replacment back sight, just what I am after to fit on otagonal barrel I am fitting to my AP Spencer rifle, the cutt off seems to be a Spencer cutt-off,unuasual for a Springfield conversion, the adress on these conversions is normaly faint on these conversions from refinishing.S&S will have any parts that you want to replace,a very nice post CW carbine that has allso seen civilian use by the look of the replacment back sight

thank you, the rear sight was one thing i was wondering about as all the other i had seen have a ladder sight. would there be a way to find out how many spencers made it though with this type of modification or how many of the Springfield conversions still exsist. with a serial in the 57k mark im assuming this was a 64-65 model can anyone confirm this? now ive seen tutorials for people wishing to actually use there Spences not just for decoration that talk about modifying the carbine to use available ammo. seeing as this was already altered to fire .50 cal would it be easier or more difficult to get this range worthy?

thank you for any input

ps. what are your thoughts on the holster? id find it interesting that it made it from boston to mississippi then back to springfield and at some point back to boston. Possible it was just paired together years later? Unfortunatly my grandfather passed long before i was born and there not much information available about him. from what i was told the weapon was gifted to him by a Massachusetts museum at least 50 years ago. He was the first and only curator of all New England zoos and the old timers might remember his old TV shows he did the animal corner on the Bozo show, had a show i THINK elephant and creapy crawly things and was always bringing animals onto johnny carson

You're "holster" is the M1887 Carbine Boot for the trapdoor Springfield carbine.

Ther were (est) 12000 1860 56-56 carbines re finished at Springfield to 56-50 by relining the barrel anfitting a cut-off + a couple of other small modifications. The sight would have been fitted after it was sold as surplus(it looks like a modified Winchester carbine sight)To get the carbine shooting you will neen a new center-fire upper block,Ten X sells loaded amo or you can reload(good advice is needed here)all can be obtained at BACO

jstone5243

im not a firearms expert so bear with me, after converting it to center fire ill still need different ammunition from other spencers no? being the barrel was sleeved
