I scored a killer deal on a Cimarron '73 Sporting Rifle with a 24" barrel. Thinking about getting it cut down to around 19" What do you think this would cost? Or would I be better off just leaving it alone?
All you need is love and a .45

Leave it alone and if you absolutely have to have a shorter barrelled carbine - trade it.

Shortening a 24 rifle down to 18 or 19 inches is not a big project.  And, a shortened rifle and a carbine aren't the same.  They balance entirely differently.  The only part that a home tinker with a decent saw and some good files can't do is the dovetail for the magazine tube hanger.  The hanger twists out of its dovetail in the barrel so the ends of the dovetail have to be curved.  This would need to go to a machine shop or a friend with a milling machine.

+ 2 on trade it , if you want the short rifle
when planets align...do the deal !

And if you'd prefer to send it out to doing it yourself, Cowboy and Indians Store in Californy can shorten it.  Don't know cost.  Seem to recall a few years back seeing them advertise $125 to shorten some rifle.
