OK, I finally got the page to upload.  Here is my webpage for the Flames of Hell Rig Pattern.

http://www.willghormley-maker.com/FlamesOfHellRig.html

Some other companies have been putting out knock-off Flames of Hell rigs based off the very first prototype I provided to the production company for "3:10 to Yuma".  They don't have the right contours for the holster, and have the belt wrong.  While I liked my first prototype, it wasn't what was used in the movie.

That bein' said, this pattern isn't exactly like the one in the move either.  While making the leather for the movie, I had to knock out the leather so fast, I loop laced the cartridge belts, (just like I did on Crowe's rig).  To compensate for that, the prototype had domed rivets between each loop, (like the knock-off).  The armorer didn't like the laced loops, or the domed rivets between the loops.  So, I lost the domed rivets and increased the number of loops.  However, because of time constraints, I still used the lace loop system for the cartridge loops.  They didn't work so well with the narrow loops, so for this production pattern, I've fixed the problems with the original.  The cartridge loops are 3/4" instead of 1/2", and sewn.  They are looser though, so rapid reloading is facilitated.

If you watch the movie, you will notice you never see the cartridge loops on the belt, so no one never noticed the knock-offs aren't like the one in the movie.  When Ben Foster reloads, he palms the cartridges and pretends to pull them out of the back of his belt.  Ahh, the wonders of cinematography!  The same magic makes Ben's gun handling flawless.  Check out the scenes in the movie and you will see they are strategically edited to create the flow.  I love the movies!

There ya go!

This should keep me busy for a while !

On the Wayne pattern, why the El Dorado?  It isn't the popular money belt.  The money belt is also the one I would like some expert direction on.  I think I could eyeball the El Dorado belt, but after reading all the money belt posts on this forum, I am more rather than less confused.  Not that I couldn't make one, but I am confused as to what is "correct", and what is best.  "Correct" meaning as Wayne had, and "best" meaning the best gunbelt/moneybelt features that a real cowboy might have wanted.  Personally I would have offered the money belt as an option, but they don't pay me the big bucks.  El Dorado certainly plays on AMC enough!

Hey Massive,

There are a lot of shops that reproduce the money belt.  I've always liked the old, cobbled up belt Wayne wore in "El Dorado".  The belt had been butchered up and let out so many times to fit his expanding waist.  I just find it very indicative of the man Wayne was.  Here he was, a super star, and he chose to wear this old, broke-down belt.  I loved it!

I remember as a kid, when the Duke was diagnosed with lung cancer.  He was at some sort of event that was being televised.  He took the mike to say a few words.  In stead of some speech, the gist of what he said was, "I've smoked all my life.  I was stupid.  Now I've got cancer.  Don't be like me.  Be smart, don't smoke!"  I remember the humility with which he delivered that simple message.  John Wayne was, and still is, the most popular leading man ever.  Yet, he humbled himself in front of everyone who admired him,  and admitted his mistake.  Why?  To save all those kids who looked up to him from making the same bad choice that was taking his life.  He humbled himself for the sake of anyone who would listen.  That was the type of man he was.  That's why I like that El Dorado gun rig.  Call me sentimental.  I've got other Duke stories, but those will be for some other time.  I'll close with my favorite Duke quote.

"Life is tough.  It's tougher when your stupid!"

Hey Dalton,

I don't have plans to sell 'em through my sight right now.  My family will be moving as soon as we can find a new place to live.  My shop, my internet connection, my sock drawer, and my whole household will be up in the air for a spell.  Don't know when this will happen, but probably about the same time as a new grandson is due to arrive.  So, everyone should plan on gettin' 'em through their local TLF.  They will also be distributing them to other leather crafting outlets.

Also, after I went to bed last night, I was thinkin' about what Massive said about the money belt.  I've already got a money belt pattern in my cartridge belt pattern pack, but, if I've got enough room left over in the El Dorado pattern, I'll see if I can't add a pattern for the Duke's money belt.  No promises, only if I have enough room.  I may have.  Because of the cut of the holster, I only need nine holsters to cover all the pistols I regularly make patterns for.  That won't give me much more room, but with three pages, it might be enough.  We'll see.

Ya know Dalton, the last I looked, Nebraska had the longest, most stable marriage relationships, the healthiest lifestyles, and the lowest personal debt out of the States.  I wouldn't mind living in the sand hills area, but that might be a little too close to my wife's native Dakota Territories for her comfort.

I'm lookin' for a cheep, big old house in the thirty thousand dollar range.  I'm lookin' at two of 'em in southern Ioway country this Saturday.  One of 'em is near one of my favorite huntin' grounds, so I'm rootin' for that one.
