Bit of a problem with my Richards Mason Army

The backstrap has a mottled finish on it. Not consistent,,,a very 'black streak' with lesser black off to each side. I got it from Taylors. I wonder if that could be considered a warrentied defect ? would they maybe fix it ? replace it ? It's not 'bad' and can only be seen in the sunlight or near a lot of light..but it is mottled and inconsistent finish on the backstrap. The rest of the blueing on the revolver is perfect.

After firing a few thousand rounds you won't notice the difference.

I hear ya. I almost would be nit-picking to call them about such a minor thing. Unless I hold it right under my desk lamp I can't really see it. At average room light it's non-noticeable.

As you say,,,I'll jest use'er and call it good.

I have a matched pair that I got from Cimarron.  I noticed the same thing.  It is like a "cloudy" appearance on the backstrap, not an even bluing like on the barrel.  Everything else looks perfect.  Must be the nature of the beast.

No - not really.

What happened is that the parts weren't properly cleaned and degreased prior to bluing.

Some oil in the solution will give the finished piece a 'cloudy' or 'rainy' appearance, and the only way to rid it of that is to refinish that part.

Fortunately for you, the affected part is on the backstrap, and that's the part that'll see the most wear, so it'll lose finish at that point faster than anyplace else.

This isn't a problem just with imports - it happens at the big companies as well - even at S&W.

Yea, St. George,,I'm just gonna leave it as is,,,cause in a year of handling,,it'll level and blend into one shade I believe.
