.....with cast bullets?  I would be interested in cast bullet load data for the 1903, and what kind of results you are getting.  Anyone have data to share?

Thanks,

GA

For GAF matches shooting steel, I use 11gr Trailboss with an(I think)185 gr bullet from an old Lyman mould I have. It's a somewhat pointed bullet, I tried 165gr flat point bullets for a 30-30, it didn't like to feed those well.

This target is this load at 50 yds,.....Without moving my sights for my 150gr FMJ rounds at 100yds, this places the same at 50 yds,.....

Pretty good looking target, SGT. :)   I like the idea of he gallery load.  Have to look for that bullet.

Do either of you gents have any problems with leading?   Are you guys using gas checks?

No problem with leading in mine, I cast them from wheel weight metal, usually just shoot them as cast, lubed with Lee Liquid Alox.Sometimes I size to .310 and apply gas checks. I probably can't group as well with mine as Sgt Chapman can(haven't really tried) but they did pretty well at a couple of GAF Musters, shooting steel out to 75 yards or so.

I gas checked just cause I don't like the idea of cleaning lead from any more than a pistol barrel.......

You could always try the old standard laod of 16gr 2400 mentioned here:http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=13425 I have tried it in my Krag and it worked well for that. It's a little faster load, so it would need gas checks.

I have heard of that load.  Kind of a standard, I guess.  Anyone know of an outfit that sells a 150 grain cast bullet with a gas check?

Don't know of any offhand, since I cast my own for most uses. About the only thing I buy is .38 and .45 pistol bullets, but I'm sure someone makes them.

I shoot lee bullet mold c309-180-R bullets over 16 grains of 2400 as stated above. It is more accurate at 100 yards than I am. Zero leading even with only a tumble lube. I prefer regular lube in the grease grooves but they both are lead free after shooting hundreds of rounds in a day.

I did not know you could use an 03 in GAF matches. What era would this be used for.

They are fine in the Expansion Era side match(GAF version of Wild Bunch). Anything from 1900-1916-'03(but not 03-A3), Lee-Enfield, '98 Mausers, etc. Can pair with 1911 auto, or any other auto or revolver from the same period.
