Drydock

I remember, when I was over there for Gulf War 1, that the Marines considered him a "Got damned dirt chewin' real f------ soldier!"

Godspeed, General.

US Scout

I met him several times just prior to the first Gulf War.  I was doing an extended annual reserve drill at CENTCOM HQ in June 1990, and briefed him on NBC in the Middle East, and prepared and presented a report on what intelligence indications we would be able to see prior to Iraq launching an attack (which we did see in August, though few really believed it).

Most people at CENTCOM were scared to death of him, but I'd been around generals (and difficult superior officers) since I was a young Lance Corporal of Marines so didn't run for cover every time he came down the passageway.

Rest in peace, General.
We'll stay in the fight.

I too met the General, I was impressd with his size and height.
It was several years after the Gulf War and he was the guest speaker at a Corperate Industrial I was producing
at the Dolphin Hotel, Walt Disney World.
I happpend to be in his line of sight backstage, He motioned to me and he stepped a bit out of his path
to shake my hand...he said "Thank you" .... TO ME he said thank you  :o

NO SIR ! THANK YOU !
