I need some advice.  I'm looking to get my first cowboy revolver ( in 45 LC of course )  & can't decide between the 2 I've really been looking at.  The one I was leaning towards most was the Taurus Gaucho with a 4 3/4 bbl with the case hardened frame.  Tonight I saw a  Uberti " outlaw "  with a 3 or 3 1/2 bbl.

I am very familiar with Taurus & know next to nothing about  Uberti.  I am looking to get into the  cowboy shooting events too so I'd like the opinions of some more experienced cowboy shooters out there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to gun shops that deal in them and man handle them, if they frown on that you probably don't want to deal with them any ways
Second go to a local shoot and see what others are shooting, you might be able to try one out. While at the shoot ask questions. Being a new shooter, I have found SASS and CAS shooters are the friendliest and some of the most helpful folks you will ever meet.

Yep, I agree.  Cowboys will practically throw guns at you to try - just make sure you can catch!  ;)  Try different loads too - that makes a big difference too.  I'm just kinda stuck on these Rugers.....

Yeah.  Threw ah Uberti loaded with Holy Black it Trina once.  It got 'er nails dirty.  She wuz pissed it me fer a week.  Pretty l'il girl but she's got a temper.................

Cowboys is the best bunch.  Happy ta let ya shoot theirs.  Be happy ta let ya shoot mine.  Got ah whole pile ah Ubertis.  Barrels from 3 1/2" ta 18".  I got Rugers but I like mah clones.

Thing is.  If that's what ya like.  Learn how to replace parts, springs 'n such.  Some ya gottah fit.  Or, be prepared ta pay somebody that can.  Ever once in a while sumthin' is gonna break in the things.  Ya need ta keep spare parts or a back up.  Reckon that's gonna happen with ennything with flat springs in it.

If yer a newbe 'n ya ain't willin' ta get down 'n dirty with a screw driver, yer best off with Rugers.

The above, with exception of the Trina comment, is my not so humble opinion.  It's worth exactly whut ya paid for it...............

Thank ya'll for your awnsers.  I intend to go to the next local shoot on Dec 11 & look around.

Arcey, I have no problems working ( or at least attempting to ) on my own guns & really enjoy it.

So ... to try to help m'self a lil ... here's my next question.

You can only have 1 pistol.  ONLY ONE.  Around 600 dollars to spend.

What one pistol would you get & why.

And again .. thanks in advance for your time.

One thing to consider is Uberti has made SAAs for about 30 years and from my recent experiences with some of the guns Cimarron imports from Uberti,  is they are an excellent value and quality for the money with European walnut grips that look awesome. Taurus is no slouch when it comes to gun making, but their experience in making SAA is only recent and I believe they use a non-historical frame mounted firing pin and transfer bar that to me deviates from the original design a bit too much.  I like to see the hammer mounted firing pin when I cock the hammer back. The other fly in the ointment for Taurus is their logo and lettering look too modern and the hot blue is a bit too dark to look anything close to the heat/carbonia blue on a 19th Century Colt, while Uberti seems to come a bit closer with theirs.  This is just my observation and opinion.  I would look each of them over, handle them and decide for yourself.  My vote is for any of the Ubertis by themselves or from one of the importers like Cimarron or EMF.

$600 will buy you alot of gun/guns, if you don't mind used. Again go to a local shoot...The shoots I go to someone always has a gun for sale. Bought 3 for my wife in the past couple months at shoots. I like my Rugers, but don't have a problem with Uberti's either

I'd go with a Stampede myself. They look just like a Colt, shoot as good as a Colt, cost a third as much. I admire mine more everyday in fact I'm picking up another in about a week. Good luck

Good compromise, the Stampede has the transfer bar and the quality of Uberti/Beretta behind it.

Don't forget that one of the new administrators at Taurus is an old Colt man!

I just picked up my first of two 5 1/2 polished stainless Gaucho's.  The gun is very well built, and my dealer sells them for 393.00 new in the box.  No other brand can match that price.  I like the transfer bar for the nightstand I can keep all six chambered,  you might want to reconsider the 3.5 barrell getting an awful short sight radius there.
