Hi All, I recently bought a Marlin Model 1889 carbine made in 1891. It was missing a few small parts which I have already replaced, but my problem is that it is missing the buttstock and I am looking for some advice on the best way to replace it. I see two ways forward; The first would be to get a repro stock. After scouring the internet, I found many repro 1889 rifle stocks cut for the cresent buttplate but no carbine stocks. The second way would be to modify a stock (either original or repro) from another Marlin model. I have a buttstock to either a Marlin Model 1893 or 94 (not sure which) and it seems like all that would be needed to fit the 1889 would be to lengthen the lower tang mortise about 3/4th of an inch. I am capable of doing this well. Are any of the other models close? Another problem is finding a buttplate. I doubt that I'll find an original so I was wondering how close a Winchester Model 1892/94 carbine buttplate would be to the Marlin? Any insight would be appreciated.

A buddy of mine collects older marlins and he's mentioned that they have a website.

At the moment, I don't know what it might be, but that's the first place I'd start looking for the 'right' piece.

Good Luck!
