My sincerest condolences to his family. Although I never met the man, as the Indians used to say, "My heart is on the ground!"  :'(
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Very sad news indeed.  He was one of GAF's strongest supporters and recruiters.  He will be missed.

Any GAF member who so chooses, especially within the Department of the Missouri, is authorized to wear a black armband of mourning.

I would also encourage any GAF member who is able to attend his funeral tomorrow. I would really like to represent the GAF but travel time makes this nearly impossible.

I only met the man a couple of times, and was vastly impressed.  He will be well missed, and well mourned.  Fair winds Colonel, and may the Lords blessings be upon your family.

I'll be praying for the family. Here is the obituary I found in the Alexandria Echo Press.

"Dale Edwin Haug, 65, Alexandria, passed away November 8, 2011 at his home.

Dale was born May 11, 1946 at his grandmother's house in Bryant, SD on Mother's Day. He grew up on the family farm with his younger brothers near Willow Lake, SD. He attended Willow Lake High School, where he was active in sports and served as class president. After graduation, he attended South Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in industrial arts.

On June 2, 1967 Dale was united in marriage to Katharine Whitaker in Brookings, SD. He received a commission in the U.S. Army and attended officer training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. Oldest son Chris was born there. He was assigned to Fort Bliss, TX before serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the South Dakota National Guard upon returning from active duty.

Dale taught one semester at South Dakota State University before moving to Browns Valley, MN where he taught industrial arts. In 1975 he moved to Alexandria and was employed at Douglas Machine for 26 years, working in different departments. He retired as vice president of engineering in 2002. Dale had many hobbies. He joked that his favorite hobby was starting new ones. He was a hobby machinist, woodworker and gunsmith. He spent many hours in his shop. His favorite activity was making wooden boxes and building trailers. He built 13 grandfather clocks and learned how to repair clocks and watches. Dale and his family built his shop onto the garage, the sun porch and deck onto their house and a garage. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and rode whenever the temperature was above 50 degrees. Dale also enjoyed helping his neighbors and visiting with them.

Dale was a member of the Alexandria Gun Club for 35 years and participated in Cowboy Action for 15 years. Dale was a member of the local Harley owners group, enjoying the Wednesday night rides. Dale also sang in church choirs starting when he was in high school.

Dale adored his two granddaughters and was very excited when they were born.

Capt. Montgomery Little

Just arrived home from vacation to find this message. Our prayers go out to Katherine and the Family in their time of loss.  Not enough space to espouse his good points beyond the obit, but suffice it to say that he was a true man of men and a true man after God's heart. He will be sorely missed by all.
