Hey y'all I'm looking to make my 1st holster for my very 1st bp revolver Wich was love at 1st shot! When the smoke cleared I knew I'd be a bp addicted for life. Although there are beautiful premade holsters out there I'd like to get into making most everythig I need for my new love of the bp arts starting with a crossdraw holster for my dragoon. Any suggestions?

Major 2

The Dragoon was rather large for a belt gun, being design as horse pistol for pommel hoslters.
However, It was carried on the belt as some examples exist.

I suggest " Packing Iron " by Rodenbury, in it you will see some original examples.

In the era of the Dragoon , the Slim Jim style or the flap holster, either with a plain belt @ 2" were the two most common style .

St. George

Rattenbury's 'Packing Iron' will be your best reference - and the Slim Jim was the most popular.

As mentioned, during the era of it's popularity, the Dragoon was considered a 'Horse Pistol' or 'Pommel Pistol' and not a 'Belt Pistol', so if you strap it on - buckle up tight, otherwise it'll slide right off your hips.

Haha I'd hate to have my pants drop to my knees while in a match that's forsure! And the weight of the gun is what I fell n love with and I bet buffaloing some one with a dragoon would leave a nasty goose egg I bet. Thank y'all for ur help. I'll be ordering the pattern a.s.a.p. Now that I know what to get.
