I am asking this question in relation to the 1894 winchester primarily in 30-30 but I think it applies to the 1873 winchester as well. How many round barrel rifles were made and how many octagon barrel rifles were made .... in the 1894 and the 1873.... I have owned original 94's and 73's in both round and octagon and like both but the round barrels seem to handle nicer.... Would like to know numbers made.
Thanks,

Can't help ya with the numbers..but I'm ache'ing bad for a 24" full round barrel '73. But I can't afford a 'real' one,,just wish Uberti would produce it.

Marshall, not to make you feel bad (but it did me, why oh why couldn't it have been me :'() but at the OGCA meeting in Ohio yeasterday a friend showed me his latest buy. A truly beautiful FIRST model '73 round bbl rifle in great shoting condition which he got for well under 2k. Just goes to show that good deals and good guns are still out there, you just got to be at the right place at the right time (somehow I'm always one aisle over at the time...). ;D

My thoughts on the subject:  A new Uberti is approching $1300 if not higher.  When you drive it off the lot it becomes a used gun and if you try to sell it through a dealer, he is going to give you less than his cost for a new one i.e. $700 or less.  You might be able to sell it to a buddy for $1K but you still lose money.  There are lots of decent '73s out there for $1500 to $2000 and if you dont mess it up it will NEVER go down.  Real nice ones can get pricey but there are deals like Pathfinder was talking about still around.
