The Travis County Regulators had their first night shoot last night, combined with Halloween decorations and lighting.  Some of the targets were lit up with black lights mounted to the buildings.  The rifle targets were still pretty dim, especially when obscured by smoke.  There was a chemical fog machine that helped to obscure some rifle targets on one stage, giving the smokeless shooters a taste of what BP shooters deal with.  The theme was "Cowboys and Aliens", don'cha know?  Blackjack Pershing and his kids did a bang-up job of decorating the range and targets.  I asked Boo-Boo Shot to shoot a video of me on one stage with my little pocket camera.  Since there was almost no light at the shooter's position, not much shows up except when the guns are fired.  With my little camera it is almost impossible to get a regular photo timed to show the flame from BP shots, but by pulling stills from the video some interesting pics are found, abeit a bit fuzzy.  I like the way the left hand gun is silhouetted against the flame of the right hand shots.  The gun in my left hand by the way is a 1901 vintage SAA.

My first and only other night shoot was at Tin Star Ranch about ten years ago. Lots of fun.  It was pretty easy with all the lights.  I brought along a vhs camcorder and filmed one stage.  Converted that tape to dvd and actually got a few good BP-flame pics by stop-framing that one, too.

The more I think about this, the more I think I may use my Dragoons for the night shoot.  A full charge in those should provide lots of fireworks at night!  ;D

How Cool! I always wanted to shoot my BP guns at night but the range closes at Dusk.
My gosh I guess that indoors at night BP must be the most excitement that you can have!

You can amp that up a little bit with a wad of steel wool under the ball. The courser grades work better. 000 and 00 burn too fast.Several Civil War reenactors use it in their muskets and cannons when shooting at night. Talk about fireworks! A six-pounder with a big wad of #2 steel wool in front of a medium charge of Fg is something to see.
I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.
