Dying or painting scabbard

I have this scabbard that is partially done,bought it this way,can i still dye or paint the coyote,cactus,moon and a few rocks on it?Or is it to late becuase it has a sealer on it?What would i use?

If is just sealed ( not waxed) you could use acrylic lacquer
