Hows about this one pards....

I got me a Westerners Arms (Uberti markings) 1860 Army.
I also got me a Uberti 1860 Army.

The grips and backstrap on the WA are BIGGER than those on the Uberti!! Which is a bit of a surprise as everything else seems to be the same size!! I would have thought any 1860 Uberti... regardless of the name stamped on it would be the same size throughout!!  :o :o

Pettifogger

Do you mean one has a Navy grip and the other an Army grip?  Or, both have Army grips but they are a different size.

Fer Pettifogger............

Ho pard, As far as I can assume they are Both Pukka Uberti 1860`s septin the WA one HAS got a bigger grip!! All the other componants... barrel, frame, arbor and Cylinder look to be identical!! I must say that the smaller `straight` ( ;) ) Uberti`s grip does fit my hand better. I have a 2nd Gen sig 1861 navy, so in the week I will compare them and see whats cookin!! Also for some strange reason the Backstrap on the `straight` Uberti is Plumb Not blue!! ??? I must admit though, it does look very nice

PUK,
I have a couple of 1860 Colt 2nd generation guns. The cylinder on one and the backstrap on the other is a purple plum color. Looks fine if they were on the same gun, but kinda weird the way they are. Not sure what causes this, but I think Colt had a problem with the blue jobs on some of their 2nd generation guns.

Ruger also had a problem with this... if I remember right, it had to do with the steel alloy used, and how the bluing took to the steel and aged, resulting in the "plum" coloration.

Junkman

Plum colored bluing can also occur with hot dip bluing if the salts are weak (from too many bluings) or the temperature of the bath is too cold for the type steel being blued.
