.38 Special b.p. WINS Cowboy Silhouette Match!

Howdy Pards.

Wanted to let you know that a fellow shooting .38 Special black powder cartridges in a .357 Marlin Cowboy rifle won an NRA Cowboy silhouette match this past Sunday. He downed 35 out of those 40 distant targets. 

That was more than the fellows shooting smokeless.

What kind of sights are allowed in those matches?

What is so surprising   In an appropriate caliber, and .38 Spl is very suitable, BP is just as accurate, (sometimes very accurate,) as with fad powders.

Good photo showing the relative angle of target size.  The distant targets are approximately the same cone angle size for a hit as the close ones. 

Good shooting John!  And, yes, black powder is very accurate when properly loaded in appropriate calibers.

I went to a shoot once and didn't realise that there was a silouette section. The only rifle I had ammo for was my Rossi in the avitar. All I had were 38Special target/cowboy level loads (smokeless) in 357 cases. The trajectory was awful, but when I did manage to hit them, they invariably fell over. I was more near the rear than near the front in the final tally though!
