Anyone know of links to 1876 disassembly? Or if not, anyone know of any good print/ sources? I've seen links to '73 takedowns and such, I know the 76 is a big 73, but I'd like to see a manual for an actual 1876. Or would I be ok following the '73 instructions? I've got a Chappy 45-75 NWMP I'd like to take down and clean up on the inside. Just needs some smoothin'. I'm a kitchen table gunsmith so I'm trying to figure out what I'm getting myself into. If I have good instructions with pics I'm usually alright. Videos are even better  :P   Never taken a toggle link down so this is new frontier to me. Thanks guys

Thank you sir, they've got some good stuff on the '66 and '73's, is it the same for a '76?

Howdy Kid,
Yessir, the '76 is just a scaled up '73, the same instructions should work for both.  In fact, if you were to look at pics of '73 innards and had nothing in the picture to indicate scale, you could just as well be looking at a '76.  Now, note that I'm talking Uberti.  I think the Chaparral is going to be the pretty much the same but I'm not familiar with the bolt and firing pin arrangement on the Chappy so there could be slight differences there.

Thanks Abilene. Hopefully it's not too bad! Do you know any good smiths that I can mail it to, who work for a fair price?

What is it you are trying to do with the rifle?  If you just want to make it a little smoother then the instructions on Marauder's website should be all you need.  Just lighten the springs a tad is the main thing.   Probably shouildn't need to go to a 'smith unless it has a problem.  Lots of CAS competitors send their '73's to 'smiths to trick them out, but that is so they can run them really fast (short stroke kits, lighter weight components, timing).  I can't see a situation where you would need to lever and shoot a '76 that fast  :)  But if you do have some problem with the gun that needs a gunsmith or someone with more experience, you might ask on the 1876 forum here on CASCity, lot's of '76 experience with those guys on both Ubertis and Chappys.  In fact, if you haven't yet, go to that forum and go back through it looking at the old posts, probably find some good info on your gun and '76's in general.  I've heard that getting parts for the Chappys in the USA might be a problem, so hopefully that won't be an issue for you.

I'll search around there a bit and see what I can find! No I don't need speed at all, it's just the insides feel rough, lots of burrs on the inside of the receiver where the carrier rides up and down. I was cleaning it when I first got it, ran a q-tip through there and it just shredded the q-tip up it was so rough. Just thought it would be nice for the action to be nice and smooth. I don't know how I would deburr the inside of the receiver without messing it up possibly. I've read that just polishing the carrier helps, that would be simple enough. But I think the inside of the receiver itself needs to be smoothed up and re-blued probably. Chappy, what can I say. I did save alot of money on it vs the uberti and it does function fine, just not as smooth as I'd like on a toggle link.

A small set of curved files will take most of the roughness off. I used a set to slick a 92. I wrapped some 500 grit finishing paper around the files and just smoothed it up a bit. I followed the instructions on Mauraders site and it took a total of a couple hours (I went really slow and carefull). In most places I didn't even completely remove mill marks, just smoothed it. It went from really stiff to really slick. Ya can run it with yer pinkie finger if ya want now. I also used some spray white lithium grease on the bolt and such. The second one I did took about 1/2 hr. WM

I'll give that a try. Thank you sir
