Anyone using holsters and belts from   http://westernandwildlifewonders.com/ ?

Looks like they have great value.

The "Lawman" series has my attention.

or the "Bounty Hunter" set

Would one type over the other offer an advantage to a new shooter?

I've never used any of Don's leather, (for obvious reasons), but he has made grips for me.  Quite happy with his workmanship.

As for rigs for beginners:  The "Lawman" pictured isn't a historical styled gun rig.  This wasn't found in the "Old West".  If you are interested in historical accuracy, you wouldn't choose this rig.  It would work fine for shooting, but wouldn't fit in with shooting groups that require historical authenticity.

The "Bounty Hunter" has traditional "Old West" lines and would be acceptable to shooting groups that have authenticity as one of their requirements.  The holsters are more secure and don't require the "Hollywood" hammer thong to keep 'em in the holster while active.

As for the rig that would give you the most advantage as a new shooter:  the "Lawman" might afford some advantage in speed, but the "Bounty Hunter" would give you more security for your weapon in those stages where you are required to move between shooting events.  The real advantage comes with practicing with the gear you have.  If you drill with the equipment you have, you will become as competent as you can be.  Familiarity and repetition are the keys to successful shooting.

Will,

Thanks for the comments. GREAT help to a newbie like me.

I loved reading about how you made the Hand of God rig. Amazing attention to detail and the leatherwork is fantastic!

Would your "Law Dog" rig pass muster as suggested above?

Whay is the ETA if one were to order two strongside holsters and a belt?

THANKS!

I agree with Will here, the Lawman isent historical correct. I've got Wills patternpack of the
Lawdog, and I love that model. Have made one rig from that pattern.
The outher rig is a little Cheyenne I think, it looks nice.

Hey rbertalotto,

The "Law Dog" is historically accurate.  The original design probably dates from the 1880s or so.  Right now my delivery dates are running about 6-8 weeks out.

Also keep in mind if your wanting historical accuracy that open toe on the Cheyenne and Montana variations was not very common. Almost all had a toe plug. Also the extra keeper loop for the large part of the belt is not seen on 19th century belts. And as Will said the hammer thong has hollywood written all over it.  It all comes down to your requirements and personal taste, no cut and dry answer what is best for a new shooter in general. A big advantage of having a custom rig made to fit your needs.

Thanks, that's actually my personal working cowboy gun rig, I copied it from an original F.A.Meanea rig that a collector had at the great eastern gun show a couple years ago. Wont mention his name for his privacy but he has some fantastic original pieces he has been very generous in allowing me to trace and measure. The inside stamp is not correct of the original but I've since made a correct stamp.

Cliff thats a darn nice looking rig. I,m sure rbertalatto would br more than happy with it. KT
Cheer up things could be worse, sure enough I cheered up and they got worse.

When you guys are doing up historically accurate rigs, what kind of bullet shapes are regarded as accurate?  Assuming the popular Keith style would not be.
