Please vote on the barrel length that you like best for Cowboy Action Shooting [main matches] shooting with your fine Rugers.

Leave a post as to why you like that length, too.  ;D

Merry Christmas to all.

I have a pair of .44 stainless steel Vaqueros that have 7.5" barrels.  I like the long sight radius of them.

Hard for me to choose just one. :D I would view the 5.5 inch as a good compromise, but my guns are 7.5 inches.
A work in progress.

Original Army was 7.5.  Being as I am an Infantryman cannot bring myself to carry Artillery Length barrels.

Refuse to accept the Cavalry Model name of the 1873 Army revolver.  But then I am kinda a jerk

I'm shooting OMV's, one sheriff's model (3 3/4) and one with 4 3/4 inch barrel.
No favorite barrel length, they are both accurate and they just look good (especially with the SBH hammers).

I like the 3.75" on my Old Vaquero, the 4.68" on the New Vaquero, and the 5.5" on the Bisley Vaquero. All in .45LC the balance is just right for me. They point well and spin well. Obviously spinning is not a competition criterion but it's fun with unloaded guns and I like familiarity and connection it fosters. If you can find the proper hold faster you can deliver the shot faster especially from a table start.

Started this game guess n 'round six years ago, maybe more, with Super Blackhawks that had the 10.5" bbls lent to me by a Pard and these pieces trained me to slow down!

That 'ol front sight would take a bit to find and line up!  Caught a lot of RAZZ accusing me of cheat'n by ding'n them plates with the end of the bbl....  not to mention I had to wear them holsters really low so that I didn't totally dislocate my shoulder pull'n them smoke wagons!  Play'd with some USFA China Camps with 7.5" bbls and that was a disaster!  Ruger Magic in my hands only!

My first personal owned, and still have, a pair OMV blued 357 mags that have 5.5" bbls and I love 'em a lot!

Couple years back I acquired an awesome pair of Bisley SS OMV in 45 Colt (consecutive serial #'s too) with 4.625" bbls that I trying to learn "Gunfighter" with 'em.

Some folks say they can't tell the diffance beteen the 5.5" and the 4.625" but I seem to be have'n a bit of trouble being "one" with the shorter bbl....  I Will Over-come!

Thanks for that comment about becoming one with the gun. I thought I was losing it for a minute. I have always tried to find the gun off the rack that speaks to me and feels connected. It's always been a shorter barrel. It's down right amazing how accurate the Bisley vaquero is. That gun just finds the center of the target naturally.
