I've seen this listed somewhere, but forgot where.
I'm ready to buy some real screwdriver bits before I
bugger everything up, but I
don't know which sizes to get.

Primary use will be Uberti '73 (Beretta Renegade ifthat matters)
Ruger New Vaqueros
TTN Cimarron 1878 shotgun
Norinco/Winchester '97 shotgun
Rossi M92

I'd hate to buy some giant set of 100 bits and find that I only needed a dozen.

Also, what brands give the best value? Brownell's?

Thanks in advance for anyone who either had the list, or went thru his bits and made one. :)

Well, to start you off, Brownells sells a set specific for the Winchester '97.  The bits in that set fit most else, Uberti, Ruger, Colt. Rossi.
Some bits will still need to be "fit" to specific gun screws but this little batch is a great place to start.

Thanks, I'll either backorder it or watch the stock!

Good list Abilene. You can't beat the quality, assortment, and availability of Brownell's bits. I've been using them since the early 70's. Some of the other sets available are good also, such as Chapman's and Lyman, but if you need replacements or want to add on, I don't know what the availability from these places are. Of course if you find a good deal on one of the sets, you can always replace with Brownell's bits(I assume they fit the handles). The Brownell one's are top quality, a little pricey, but well worth it. Don't use cheap screwdrivers/bits on your guns, you'll regret it if things go 'south'. Note-you may still have to 'customize any bits you get to fit your particular firearms by grinding or filing!
