i'm looking forward to shooting it. but that may be awhile. i still need a bullet mould and reloading dies. they aint cheap. i'll have to scrounge some extra money

I found a set of CH4D dies on gunbroker fer cheap a month or so ago. rcbs 22 shell holders fit the Jamison brass real well.
I think it would be possible to get by without resizing if John got that chamber cut tight. Just deprime, prime dump in the powder thumb in a bullet and go.
.431-.433 seems to be the favored pathced bullet size before patching. and Goex 1f , and KIK 2f are the powders a friend of mine has been having the best accuracy with.
The RCBS mould for the 43 should work for a grease groove bullet, it drops at 390 from 20-1 and just at .447 .

Nothing wrong with a 45 70 its a good caliber. I was a lil concerned over recoil with a 50 90 after firing it using Black Powder with 515 and 650s i found the recoil wasnt bad at all. If i get another i think itll be a 40-70. Both your guys sharps look very nice. Havent had a good calm day to shoot mine since the wind wanted to blow last sunday 40 Mph kept the smoke out of my eyes though.

been breaking in my new sharps. she sure does sing. it seem like right after i got mine things went south. i couldn't find reloading dies no where for it. they were on back order for some time. i finally got some from c. sharps and have been burning powder every day now. had to take a few days off from it as my shoulder had done got tender. aint it great

now if hunting season will ever get here

Billy what did you end up with for a bullet?
I had Brooks cut a 480 gr original postel nose at .447, and it showed up today. 4 lube grooves and with a tapered driving band, should be able to seat it out if need be.
Also have a batch of the .435 slicks from the Old West mould wrapped and ready to go.
My rifle should be in action in about a month or just a bit more...

i got a rcbs bullet mould 446" 44-370-FN 370 Grn. for now. good looking bullet. it drops about .446-.447. it has 3 greese grooves and a crimping groove.
i'm still breaking in the barrel so i haven't shot for accuracy yet. i plan to get a paper patch mould made for me. but i ran across a sweat deal on a model 1876 45-75 and couldn't walk away from it, so a paper patch mould is on hold for now, as i'll need reloading supplies and moulds for the '76. its never ending

I`m a new BROW shooter

Ordered my C.Sharps 1874 Hartford Sporting rifle 30" barrel and in 45- 2 7/8" or in modern terms 45-110 in the first days of May and it was ready made after a month but it take one more month before I got it home here in Norway.

And boys that was a beautiful rifle and nice to shoot with to, I`m gonna have many shootingdays at the range with this one.

Be sure to follow the barrel break-in procedure recommended by C Sharps. I don't know precisely how much difference it makes, but I did follow it - and my rifle is extremely accurate.

You'll have many years of pleasure from that rifle.

Jepp I did that and my scond 10 shot string at 100 meters was 94 I`m satisfied with that, it was`nt with the holy black because of the barrel break in procedure and I think that has something to do with that.

It`s my new toy witch is cheaper to buy from C.Sharps than from Pedersoli in Italy even if it is closer to home, strange thing, some one is making a lot of money on the way.

Mine was only shot at 50 yards, as I was really only focusing on the break-in that day. However, I had 4 round of BP ammo left that I felt would be the most accurate in that rifle (56 grains of Swiss FFg with the Dick Dastardly 400 grain Big Lube bullet). Those 4 rounds went into just under 1/2" - all one hole. And mine is just a carbine configuration C Sharp Model 1875. I bet the longer and heavier barrels on the more serious target rifles would be really impressive.

I load mine with 80 grains Fg and a carbordwad, greasecookie and with 535 grains Postell bullet on top of that.
I`m loading some with 90 grains FFg and with the same bullet but without the greasecookie, I have to try out to see what`s the best load.
