howdy yall,
sometime back i bought a chapperal model 1876 45-75.  i got it from a gun shop in town and it was slightly used. the gun is in good shape and the barrel is clean. the price was right so i snatch it up.
it looked good in the store, but after getting it home the gun is junk. not from mis use or abuse. but the fit finish and everything is junk.
the reciever has big rough tool markings gouged in it where the elevators rides up and down. a problem i can fix.
i shoot black powder only and got a lyman mould 457192 for it.  the extractor fails to grab the bullets rim half the time. the magazine tube spring seems week to me and i have to snatch the lever hard to get it to feed another round. for what its worth im using jamison brass.
are there any replacement pparts for chapperal? are they still in business? any advise would be appreciated,

thanks,
billy

The worst rumor I have heard is that they have stopped production and were in the process of selling of the guns at unreal low prices.  When I was shopping around the rumors were that remaining stocks were going for as low as half the going rate of Ubertis.  Perhaps it is my imagination but I got the impression that my 'go to' guy received less of a price break on my Uberti '76 for me than he normally does on their other products???  Possibly the results of no more competition in town?

Your cartridge feed is dependent on your cartridge length. Ideally, your cartridges should be the same length as the cartridge carrier, but NO LONGER. Off length ammo can make feeding rough or impossible on any '76.
I too have a Chappy. It is not as pretty as a Uberti, but after a good "tuning", it's a great shooter.
