FWIW - just finished reading Richard Baumgartner's book - Blue Lightening - Wilder's Mounted Infantry Bde at Chickamauga. Great read and highly recommend it to any fans of the Civil War in the West and the Spencer. The first hand accounts by the troopers of their Spencers in action and the love of their weapons are fascinating. And the impact of Wilder's tactics and organization, and impact on the battlefield are quite illuminating. Makes me want to finally by the Spencer rifle, get an unmarked shell jacket and reenact the 72nd Indiana. And the photos are worth the price of admission!

It is indeed an excellent read.  In 2013 the 150th anniversary of the battle of Chickamauga will take place.  We already have a group of guys who reenact with Henry rifles for 1863-1865 battles and muzzle-loading rifles for the early battles.  For Chickamauga we have 6 of us that already have Spencer Rifles, 1 original and 5 Taylor.  We will be forming a company for the 150th of Chcikamauga.  The 32 gauge based .56-50 blanks work great in these guns.  The more Spencer rifles the better.  Get your rifle now and join use for the 150th.
