While on my way home today from the Twin Cities, I stopped in Northfield to fuel-up.....and to make a withdrawl from the 1st National Bank.....They handed over the money...no trouble. Unlike the James/Younger bunch.....but, I reckon they didn't have an ATM card  ;)

Good thing I got that cash, it was $4 (Yankee) to go through the original 1st National bank...Several original items on display include Charlie Pitt's Russian Model S&W .44 and a Moore 7-shot .32 rimfire...I believe attributed to Cole Younger (may have been his backup gun). Also, a Colt Navy .36 (but I forget whom that was taken from). - Sorry, I didn't sneak any photos.

Very interesting to walk the street in-person at these sites.

Howdy, Slim I've stopped in Northfield several times when in the area. Kinda gives ya a weird feeling to walk the streets in and around the bank the James/Younger Gang tried to do their thing. Brings back memory scenes of the movie made a few years ago(accurate or not) and ya start to visulize how it all may have gone down. I've been going to try and attend their annual 'Northfield Days" when they reenact the robbery and have a week-end of things in reference to it, but always seems be  something else needed to be attended. Can't recall the date, think it's in the fall, I should check the web, maybe it is coming up and can make it. It is even more interesting to me as I'm 'shirt-tail' relation to the Youngers. It's through my Mothers Dad (My Granddad) who grew up in the Missiouri area the Youngers came from. Relationship is through the Youngers mother somehow. My Grandmother would never let my Granddad tell all his kids about it or let any of the Missiouri relatives who came up to visit tell anything about the Youngers. She felt it would put a 'stigma' on the family and people would look down on them. All that good information is now lost to time. My Granddad left home when he was 16 or so and worked the west on horseback, working cattle ranches for 3-4 years in the 1890's. He met Frank James once, when Frank was in his older years. Never got to know my Granddad, he passed away in '44 before I was born. Wish I could have known him, my Mom has told me alot of what he did tell her, interestin'.  His name was Robert 'Bob' Masterson, if any one knows of the Mastersons from Missiouri, send me a PM.
Update: Went on-line and checked with Northfield events, Jesse James Robbery Defeat or what ever they call it was held Sept. 7-11----dang, have to wait untill next year.

Thnaks for sharing, Crow Choker...That's an interesting piece of your family history.
Intersting coincidence is a long-time friend of mine who's great-uncle was Tulsa Jake Blake & was shown a picture postcard of him (dead on a shutter) when she was a young girl & told about the bad-man in the family.

I like the sign outside the new First National Bank bldg ...something to the effect "The James-Youngers had a rough time getting cash, but you can at our new ATM in the lobby".

Grapevine Jimmy

I just finished reading:
The Story of Cole Younger, Survivor of the Jesse James Gang by Cole Younger. In the book he says that Jesse and Frank James were not there. Says there was a Mr Howard and a Mr. Woods but no James'. Later in the book he states his dislike for Jesse and says that he(Cole) and Frank were friends from war times until the time he wrote the book, around 1902. Very interesting read.

I believe the actual date of the raid was SEPT 7 1876. today the 21st the Youngers were arrested.
