Pyrodex Pellet?

I recently aquired a Pietta 1851 Colt Navy US Marshall in .44 and have a question about Pyrodex Pellets. I have always used FFFG black powder but I bought some Pyrodex Pellets for .44 and they come in 30 grain size. The manual from Pietta indicates a max load of 15 grains. Are these pellets safe to use as is or do they need to be halved? Are Pyrodex Pellets equivilant to FFFG by grain? Thanks

I use them in my 1858 Remington bit I wouldn't use them in an open top. Too much strain on the revolver. They are a handful in the 1858! Great accuracy and very easy to load, but my opinion is too much for an 1851.........

If you are shooting real BP in a .44 try some ffg.  Generally works a little better. The Pietta manual really isn't to useful.  A 51 Navy in .36 might use a 15 grain charge, but that is awful light for a .44.  I tried the Pyrodex pellets to see if it would speed things up in big matches.  They say 30 grains on the label but FEEL more like 50.  They have quite a bounce to them.  Trying to cut them in half isn't really a good idea.  They don't cut well and crumble and you will never get two equal charges.
