Was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on conversions for the Pocket Navy or Police model. Is it possible? Would a normal Kirst model 1861 38LC Conversion Assembly work?
Thanks for the help

No, will not even begin to fit.  The 61 is built on a full size frame with a strait sided cylinder and is a six shot.  The Pocket Police is built on the 1849 frame and uses a rebated cylinder and is a five shot.  There is not enough cylinder wall thickness to make a conversion for any modern caliber.

Pettifogger, thats what I was afraid of. After I wrote this post I read some more on the subject and found the unwanted answer. But thank you for the quick response to my question.

I read on another thread on here that Cabelas offers a "1862 Army Police .36 Caliber Revolver" produced by Pietta will work with the Kirst 1861 Conversion Assembly. So not historically accurate, but gives one the option if they really want the shortened 1861 look.

I wish Cabellas/Pietta would use the proper nomenclature.  The 1862 Army Police is simply a 61 with a shorter barrel.  It bears NO resemblance to the 62 pocket models.

Nothing aggravates me more than these manufacturers that make up names or erroneously identify their C&B revolvers.  There never was any such thing as a Texas Army (brass framed Remington) or Reb Navy (brass framed .44 cal).

Seems like they never can get much correct...but sometimes that can be a GOOD thing! I have an OLD (1974 mfg.) Uberti, that I had no idea what it was (closest I can come is a Griswold & Gunnison)...octagon to round barrel and brass frame.

Low and behold, in 09 Cabela's offered a "Confederate Navy Sheriff cl.44" I bought three, they are no longer offered...guess what they turned out to be?
You got it! the same as my old Uberti!

Is anyone ever going to build a conversion cylinder for the Colt 1862 Police/Navy series of reproductions? In Dennis Adlers book on conversions they were popular in the day.  It seems like the smaller .32 Colt & Remington conversions and the Colt 1862 Police/Navy series of reproductions were very popular in the day. The .32 conversions seem to covered for now leaving the Colt 1862 Police/Navy series of reproductions not in production today.

Unfortunatly there just isn't room in the cylinder for the margin of safty required for smokeless powder. As a manufacturer we are not willing to take on the liability if someone were to shoot smokeless in one.

The problem is that the wall thickness in the rebated section of the cylinder is just to thin. Colt had problems with the stop notches breaking through. I built one for myself and all the stop notches are broken through. I shoot it with black powder but will not sell it and won't build them for customers.

Wish it wasn't so! :(

Actually I have the Pietta 1851 in 44cal and their '62 in six shooter format.  I figure both guns saved me a bucket load of dollars thanks to those configurations.  Imagine the cost of bob-tailing a pair of '60 Armies and then paying to replace them handles with Navy sized ones.  Even the idea of not having to chop on the barls of a 61 model makes the Pietta '62 worthy in my mind!  Dawnt care what Pietta called them non-pedigreed irons but I shore am glad they made them.  Both versions handle like a dream in the hand and are dead on dependable.  OHHH, I gots it, call them Tucos' mix!  (I think thet was the characters name who built his Colt in TG,TB&TU)
