Looks like I found the right web site and forum. I inherited a model 1860 serial number 8958 it would be interesting to find out information as to where it was and such any help would be great.

I can't tell you where it's been, but mine was probably close by. My three band rifle serial number is 8966. Yours should also be a three band rifle that looks a lot like the picture below. It would have been delivered in the early summer of 1863.
