I got a sweet lil tack driving 44mag. 92.
The problem is,, if I throw the lever down with any speed at all, 90% of the time the next round out of the magazine will eject out of the gun along with the empty case from the chamber!
If I work the lever slow it works fine.
So who knows the answer on how to fix this problem?( short of sending it off to one of the experts)

I had a similar problem with my 45 colt Rossi 92 when I got it new in the box. With out firing it I sent it to Rossi, total turn around time 2 weeks.

Now Rossi doesn't give a lot of information on what they did other than say adjustments made. Nothing looked changed but don't know at all. I've since had no more problems with it. Last month I did Steve's mods from the DVD, to the gun without cutting any of the springs, which decided not to do however did the rest. I did replace the plastic magazine follower with Steve's metal one and the single spring in the kit but kept my original in case.

I found that replacing the NASTY plastic mag tube follower with a nice shiny stainless steel one is a good thing, also polishing the inside of the tube help,s.  Also there is a tendency to short stoke them a bit at speed,.....

THEY DO NOT LIKE THIS!! and will do as you mentioned.

I`ve  found that providing your ammo is the correct length, and you work the lever fully and with authority they (My 2 Rossi`s) will perform flawlessly.

Again this is my findings..........YMMV!!

I tried it the lever every way I could think of but to no avail, including slow, fast, short and to the stops. As for the ammo it was factory ammo not roll your own which where all within spec. Rossi/Taurus site has had a few of these types of posts in different size ammo. All have been fixed and I think it is mostly the lack of testing before leaving the factory but could be wrong easily.

Maybe you need a shim under the cartridge guide to make it stick out a little further so the cartridge can't flip up.

+1 on a shim might help.  The one to contact is Nate Kiowa Jones at Steve's Gunz.  He is the guru of Rossi's.

Thanks for the input guys.
Here's some more info
When I  first got the gun it wouldn't feed my loads at all.
(All my 44 loads were for a 29 S&W) They were to long for the 92.
After loading to factory specs it worked fine feeding .
The load that is causing the trouble is 240gr. SWC.
So just for the heck of it , I just tried some 240gr. JHP
Working the lever as fast as I could ,, it ejected and chambered the next round from the magizine 100% of the time!!!
So why won't it run with the SWC loads?
Maybe try loading the SWC a little shorter than factory loads?

Willy,

I have several '92's from different manufacturers and each one has it's own personality.  With that said; only one of them will feed semi-wad cutters reliably, while all of the others prefer either Round nosed flat point or the truncated cone/flat point bullets loaded to specific lengths.  Before modifying the rifle, I would try to run down some of those bullets and try them (and maybe some factory CAS loads).

Good luck and enjoy the rifle.

Wish you would have mentioned the bullets in the first place.  They ain't handguns and as you have found out they ain't designed to shoot semi-wadcutters.  You want RNFP bullets.

willy

thanks guys.
Looks like I'm going to be hunting down some RNFP 240 grainers!
I'll let ya all know how it works out.

Willy,

For real reliability, you may well need to shim the right side cartridge guide.  The cartridge guide should just "touch" the case as it comes up, without sticking it.
Plus ........ Pettifogger is completely correct!!  None of the rifles we use in CAS were intended for SWC bullets.  Very few will function reliably with SWC ammunition.  Trying to get the rifle to function with SWCs is a waist of your time and money.  As posted, get some cast RNFP or Truncated Cone bullets.
Again, depending on the bullet, you may still need to shim the cartridge guide.

Willy, I have a 92 in 45 and it does feed the SWC's but I only used those while I was waiting for a mold. I HAD to take it out and shoot it, I couldn't wait. It didn't feed them as well as the RNFP's. WM

Willy,

These are what I have been using for loading http://www.laser-cast.com/44Cal.html.  I am also using their 38 cal. bullets to good effect.
