Me & a pard was out shootin' the Ruger Blackhawk & the Cattleman Bisley (both are .45LC) yesterday afternoon.  After about 18 rounds thru the Bisley, the hammer broke off at the top! :o

Anyone ever had this happen before? :'(

Book Miser

Ouch!

Never heard of that happening. More than likely the hammer was not properly heat-treated.

Now I gotta ask:

Was this RUGER's Bisley? That'd be a real surprise.

What exactly broke off the hammer? The spur, the tip, somethin' else?

Was this a new sixgun, or has it had some previous use?

???

Purchased it at an estate sale!  The gun was never fired.  It's a Uberti Cattleman Flattop Bisley.  The hammer broke right about center of it.  The entire top piece came off!  Derndest thing I ever saw! :o

The gun fired & somethin' fell back & hit the top of my wrist, fallin' to the ground.  When I looked, the hammer was missin' & the whole top part of the hammer layed on the ground.  My pard almost peed himself laughin'! :'(

I still cain't believe it! :o :'(

I would get a picture so ya kin see what I mean, but I lent my digital camera to a friend who went on vacation! :(

Book Miser

Dayum!

That does sound like one o' them Eye-talians forgot to heat treat the hammer properly.  :P

Well, now you get the pleasure of learnin' how to disassemble and reassemble the gun.  ;)

Badlands Walker

I tell ya pard, it's the damndest thing I ever did see! :o  I guess I'm gonna learn to tear er' down & re-assemble like ya says, dadburn it! :-\

Had the same thing happen to an Open Top a couple of years ago, not a Cimirrron though. It was an older ASM . Broke right off! :o Replaced it with a Cimmy hammer, which took a lot of fitting and rehardening, because the dimensions were slighlty different, but it is now the only "short stroked" Open Top I've ever seen! ;D
