Thank you all for input on my stamping press. The suggestion that a guide would be helpful was taken to heart and I made this yesterday. I need to make a tightening knob for the 5/16 inch carriage bolt that comes up from underneath. The guide will let me be more consistent in spacing from the edge, but still leaves me lattitude for side to side spacing. I hope these pictures upload. Don

Tallbald - Man, you're going to have this down to a science!  Your embossing press is "impressive" - sorry for the pun!   ;D  The guide looks like it will work really slick.  Will be anxious for a "report" from you on how it works.  You've done a fantastic job on the press and I know a lot of us are really glad you've shared it with us!  I'm hoping to get up to HF to pick one up this week or next - thanks for the photos and showing us what you've done - it's greatly appreciated by all!  Let us know how it works!   :)

Thanks Bedbug. I hope it works as well as I think it will. I plan to use it some this weekend. Don

Tallbald your press has become a work of art.  I really am looking forward to seeing the results it produces.  Just may need to order one of those newfangled presses for myself. Not as young as I once was or would like to be.

NICE !! Thanks for posting.
I needed another project to add to the 5,000,000,000 I already have backlogged. :o

Just got in from work and a mandatory staff meeting, thought I would check for input on the guide. Thanks everyone. I really hope the press setup helps some with strength problems like it has for me. I used oak scraps, but cabinet grade plywood from a home center  (often sold in 2 foot by 2 foot pieces) would be good too. The steel piece for the guide would not have to be bent as I did either. The neat thing is that a press can be adapted in several ways to suit the needs of the owner. I'm excited to have the weekend off with time to pursue my projects. Best of the day to all, Don.

Really great engineering job my friend and I like the way you made the guiding contact point as a pivot rather than a flat fence style surface.  This will work great with irregular surfaces, like holsters.  If you ever see the need to design a poor mans clicker machine just look back to the earlier conversations on reworking a cheap HF hydraulic press to serve the purpose.  I have little doubt that you could convert one into a championship press!  I also like the photos, makes it easy for us to see exactly how you accomplished the job.

That's a great guide, TB. That will really help get borders clean and even.
