I need to do some belts and wrist bands and was wondering which Osborne edger to get?
The one with the round hole called the "Bissonnette Edge Tool" #127.5-S  or the "Common Edger" #125.
Also which size would I need?
TIA,
Duke

Osbourne tools are awesome, but can be a bit pricey.  Midas makes edging tools as well. You can buy all four Midas edger sizes and still have a few bucks left over for the price of a single Osbourne edger.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the Osbourne, but it is nice to have several sizes to choose from. Thinner leather wants a different edger than thicker leather.

I have the complete set of Midas edgers, but I did buy an Osbourne in a size that I use often. It is a better tool than the Midas, but I'm not sure if it is 5x better if it is a size that you don't use daily.

Just curious does the second one you listed do both edges? I only need to radius one edge.
Thanks for you reply sir.

Most edging tools work on one corner at a time. To be perfectly honest, I don't think I have ever seen one that works on both sides at once. If such a tool exists, it would have to be designed to work over a limited range of leather weights I would think.

If you only want one corner done, you can do that and leave the other side square.

Also, they don't exactly "radius" the corner, more like they take the edge off.  The different sized tools take off a bigger or smaller bite when they cut. It won't be perfectly round, at least I have never been able to make that happen. The shape of the tools that I have would not promote a round profile. I get "round" after using an edging tool to break the edge by applying Gum Trag and contouring with a boning tool of some sort.

For thicker leather, you probably want a bigger radius than you would on thinner leather. Hence the reason for wanting more than one sized edger.

Duke,

I like my straight bissonette edgers the best.  I have several in different sizes.  I also have regular edgers because there are some areas that I just can't fit a bissonette edger in.
