Watched a Guy named "Tom Knapp" hit a Golf Ball at 50 yards this morning on the TV.
He was shooting an Iron Frame Henry in 45 Colt Caliber.

I've seen episode & obviously that's good shooting. A smart exibition shooter will pick the .45 since even the small difference in bullet diameter gives a slight advantage of a "hit" on a target.

I'm considered a fair rifle shot and here is one of my practice methods. I've been known to cleanup on Starlings and Sparrows when out to the farm. These birds are not protected in my state & they are extremely numerous & a bit of a pest along with pidgeons around the buildings and such. I use my 1866 in 44-40 (BP cartridges) and shoot Starlings up to 60 yds pretty routinely. Sparrows probably out to 50yds or so. I've shot a few in the air at 30 yds or so, when there is a safe backstop. Fatigue from holding the rifle is what leads to missing for me. For other fun shooting (not matches), I shoot smallish steel targets 10"x12" out to 100 yds.

Maybe someone will benefit from my practice tips.

Sparrows at 50 yards :o

You could take that show on the road, (until the bird lovers linched ye)

Yeah, I was watching Mr. Knapp do some amasing shooting with a shotgun, and was supprised when he switched over to a rifle. I was even more supprised when that Rifle was a "Henry", - - a beautiful "Iron Frame Henry".

Now I'm starting to want one  :)

Except mine won't be an import ;)

If you want a semi-authentic Henry you can shoot, it will have to be an import. ;)

OK, That explains his choice of a Rifle to shoot.

Your everyday exibition shooter wouldn't go that way, but he is an exceptional kind of Guy, and a SASS man to boot ;D

Mr. Knapp is pretty damn scary accurate with those Benelli Shotguns too!!!!

Building a "Steel Frame Henry" would be no problem for me.

This Rifle here is made from 4140 heat treated steel.

I likey!!

How are you planning to finish?  Several options...but I'm thinking browning would give it an aged, mellow look.
Please post more pics when you can.

This Rifle here is presently in the shop of "Ron Smith" to engrave as he sees fit. I don't know exactly what he intends to do, but it will be fancy, Gold enlay, hunting scenes, scroll and all that. I hear the Wood is going to cost over $4,000  :o

I was somewhat put down when he told me that he was going to have a professional "Stock Maker" do the wood ???
I was going to go down to the local lumber yard and get a Walnut Plank and make a stock for it. My stock would have cost about $35.00 :)

Ron Smith is a personal friend. We have worked on guns together before, and enjoy creating things the world has never seen.  ;D
What I said.

I will post pictures when it is finished.

wow,

GEE, I'm honored.

Actually, I have never built a "Henry" Rifle, the above Rifle is a Volcanic, shooting a custom (wildcat) 40 caliber cartridge.

When I say I build a Rifle, I mean I build everything from scratch. I don't use purchased parts, I make those parts. I make the springs, most of the screws, the stock, the sights, everything.

On the above Rifle, the frame was cut from a "flat bar" of 4140 heat treated steel. I can even drill, ream, and rifle a barrel for the pistols I build, although the barrel above was fabricated from a "Shillen" blank.

This is a hobby and a passion in life for me, I do not do this for money. If I did, it takes several hundred hours to build a Rifle like this, and the cost would seem un-reasonable to you. ???

I am not advertising here. I am trying to inspire interest for the Volcanic, hoping a commercial builder will produce it someday.
I don't need to be involved.
Then, anyone can own this beautiful, historic Rifle and Pistol

2500 hours of Ron's work transformed this old 73 into this.

NO, this is not my Rifle :(
