How were metal pommel ends attached on holsters?

Some really handsome examples in Packing Iron. I wonder how they were attached to the leather? Thanks, Don.

Tallbald I am sure there were a number of ways the metal ends were attached.  The only one I ever seen had been riveted on.

It is my understanding that a wooden plug was inserted in the bottom of the holster and the metal end piece was then tacked through the holster into the wood

outrider - your comment on the wood plugs being inserted raised another question I've had for a long time.  Having made quite a few powder horns over the years and fitting the wood plugs and drooling over "Packing Iron" for many hours got me to wondering . . . . has anyone ever seen an original holster where the toe plug was made out of wood?  I've seen a lot of original holsters but never one done that way.  To my way of thinking, if a fella had the ability to make a holster, he had the ability to make and install the leather toe plug . . . . but . . . . we've all seen a lot of "primitive" holsters as well where the person that made them didn't have a lot of formal leatherwork training/experience.  Just seems feasible that it would work with a wood toe plug perhaps fastened in place with domed tacks?  Just curious . . . .
