You don't want it, get a forged frame 1911 instead.

Sure, those Ruger CAST frame revlovers are just blowing up all over the place. Too bad those stupid engineers with all their high falutin' eqpmt. at Ruger don't know this.   

FWIW, Caspian, for whom Ruger's Pine Tree Castings makes 1911 frames, has stated that they have never had a .45 ACP 1911 frame crack. FN went to cast frames in their MK III High Powers as after heat treating they can withstand the abuse of .40 S&W as well as +p & +p+ 9mm far better than forged frames. The old argument of "cast vs. forged" certainly had its place years ago but I think now that with a reputable maker with state of the art eqpmt. such as Ruger it's not even a factor.

OK, I don't profess to be a 1911 expert nor metallurgist. However, if a Ruger frame cracks they will replace it. Simple. The .45 ACP is not a high power ctg. When the IPSC gamers start hot rodding .38 Supers then a stout frame is probably needed, for sure. But for 99% of normal shooters this will never be a factor IMO. Smith said, if I recall from the interview I read, that no .45 frames cracked. 9mm & .38 Supers, yes. That is why they only guarantee the latter frames for one year and not for life like .45 frames.

FWIW, I was talking about NORMAL run of the mill 1911's in .45 ACP and not tricked out, wide body "ray guns" in .38 Super running 125 gr. bullets at 1400 fps for IPSC.  I think you'd agree with me that for Joe Sixpack shooting Win. White Box once a month that a cast frame 1911 is more than sufficient.

And to think that Osama Bin Laden was probably shot with an H&K.

The NRA "convention" was one swell gun show.  Had a chance to fondle a bunch of guns, including the new Ruger 1911. 
Best part though, was stopping by the Kirst/Strite/VTI booth and meeting and greeting some great people I've been doing business with for years.  Nice to be able to put a face to the voices on the phone.  Not to mention some really nice guns on display.
Now for those two dumb "rednecks" that tried to steal the Elk racks at the end of the show.  Caution!!! Darwin at work!!!
