I have a copy of the 1887 Winchester.  I really like it's design and am currently engraving the receiver to personalize it a bit.  What really bothered me was the stock's finish.  I was told that if I stripped off this funny Chinese finish,  I would find real walnut. I did find real walnut!   I bought a can of stripper and then I ordered some Galazan wood stain.  Well what a difference it made.  If you didn't already know it, this stain is a formula  very much like that which was used on pre-'64 Winchesters.  When it's all done, I will post some pics.

The gun definitely looks more Winchester!

Midway USA carries this stain and it's definitely worth the price.  I ordered a bottle on Sunday afternoon, yes they process orders on Sunday, and I received it today.

Glad to hear it came out all-right. My IAC 1887 came with a more natural finish and a very nice walnut stock....no stripping ot refinish needed.

Would like to see what your doing to the metal on yours...post pics when you can.

Montana,

Here is peek of a bit of creative engraving on it already.  I took the liberty to change the WRA co logo to a PAM co logo (my initials of course)  At first glance, it looks pretty standard, but it ain't.  Will post more photos later.  This one's a little blurry.
