South Texas with a little frontier look mixed in

I haven't posted much lately as most of my work has been on more modern stuff. Here is an order for an 1860 army ready to go out. We decided on an early Mexican loop south Texas styling even though it's for a C&B. The customer wanted it to have some frontier look to it so this is what I came up with. It's done in Walnut stain and neatsfoot and topped off with bag kote. I want real bad to do some aging but he wanted me to let it happen on it's own.

Howdy Cliff,
Wow! you have created a real classic looking work of art. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Great!  Not far off from one of my favorites, the fringed California pattern on page 89 of Packing Iron.

Thanks everyone, it's on it's way to Sweden.

Awsome! Off to Sweden, eh? Must be something those Europeans fancy. I did one similar to that for a gentleman in Luxembourg last summer.

I have many swedish relatives.  My father emmigrated to Canada in 1929 and I've visited twice, in 1967 & 2009.  I hope to improve my schedule as my cousins are getting long in the tooth.  I visited my Grandfathers farm both visits but it is no longer in the family as it was divided by the freeway just north of Nykoping.

Apparently our pards over there in Sweden are doing a fair amount of single action shooting of their own. I'm pretty sure this is not the same fellow you talked to Bob. This one went to a fellow knifemaker on another site and also a facebook friend . I actually came up with the style idea, he just wanted something 1870's ish with a mountain man look. He's planning to make his own knife to go with it so I'm curious as to what he comes up with.

Cliff, that looks really good. You carried out the fringed look nicely. Very nice.

Nicely done Cliff and I think you'll find others wanting similar ones - the basic style with variations has become one of my best sellers over the last few years.........

As for a C&B in a Mex Loop - no problemo - lots of C&B's were still being carried into the 1880's and even later. Louis LAmour in his remembrances talks about working at a mine in circa 1824 or so and the only gun available was an 1860 Army still in C & B......

Rick, I'm doing one for myself with a similar look for my Remington new army except it's going to be a slim jim and will probably age it a bit.

I'd also like to make a pouch for holding extra cylinders, if someone knows of an original pouch made for that I'd love to see it.
