Now, 'that', boys and girls - is a rare belt.

It's the Model of 1876 Wide Cartridge Belt with 'Trial' modifications - designed for Infantry.

In 1878, a limited number were modified by the Fort Abraham Lincoln (Department of Dakota)  Ordnance Depot for the 1879 field trials for Infantry equipments.

The three 1" rings are to accomodate the 'Rice-Chillingsworth Trowel Bayonet' single-wire suspension, along with standard infantry bayonet's scabbard.

The Rice-Chillingsworth suspension system wasn't adopted and the belts were returned to regular service.
