Dry firing an ROA?

G'day pards.....

Tried to find this info in 'search' but didn't have much luck. 

My ROA cylinders are fitted with Treso nipples, which I covered with a small square of masking tape and dry fired. The hammers on both pistols hit the tape as a definite ring appeared but didn't cut through. How can I go about dry firing without peening or damage? Do I have to remove the nipples?

I don't recommend dry-firing any percussion weapon, but if you absolutely must - then try fitting the nipples with fired caps.

Take a look at a Dixie Gun Works catalog - perhaps they have a plastic device.

Be very, very, very, very careful.  Did I mention to be careful?

Oh, and one last thing, be careful...

Seriously, the cone is the heart of a percussion pistol.  Mess it up and you will rue the day.  Cones, or badly fitting caps are the  basis for the majority of percussion pistol problems.

Maybe you could turn up some nylon 'nipples' without the hole or the taper on the back end. If I want to dry fire practice, I have a pair of NMVaqueos in 45 Colt which feel similar. An expensive fix, but I already had them.

I think you're right....I happened to email David Clement and he said don't dry fire the ROA. Good enough for me.
