It screamed so loud someone bought it just to shut it up. Thanks for the free advert, though, Major 2!

Some of them recently on the SASS wire classifieds.

Okay, thank you. I am trying to work out a deal on a stainless pietta with a guy on Craigslist, but I really like PayPal, because that is what I feel comfortable with. And of course,he does not use it. Also working on a VOI with Cabellas, which is a age verification form just so they know I'm old enough to ship to. Michigan law. But with that, I have to find a Public Notary to sign it.

I got a Pietta 58 brasser w/extra cylinder that I would sell ..EDIT... I just got it cause I needed a brasser to make the collection more complete and I already had a cylinder for it.. but I really have no business with so many Rems ;D  so if I can help you out just let me know.
I bought it used and have not shot it yet, but it appears in good shape and the cylinder has not mared up the recoil shield, so I guess the previous owner must have not abused it... it does have a good ring around the cylinder,,, The extra cylinder is unfired.

Offer edited.. just an offer to get a fellow pard into an 1858, I think he is choosing a different route, so this one will probly keep the collection company ;) :D

That is a great deal, but unfortunately I really want to convert it in the near future. Thank you very much for the offer though.

I cannot decided between the 5 1/2 barrel and the 8 inch. I like the looks of both. But just cannot decide. Is the accuracy of the shorter close to the accuracy of the longer barrel? I want to be able to draw fairly quick, but don't really wanna sacrifice accuracy.

Freedom

I have both lengths and I will not say that the 8" is more accurate....But... the 8 inch is WAY easier to shoot accurately.. I just seems to point and balance better... I have to pay more attention to what I am doing if I want to hit well with the 5 1/2"

If you are going to buy new... I cannot stress enough how great Cabela's retun policy is, so, without a doubt, they are the place to buy from. If you get it and shoot it and find that it hits to the left...it is defective and back she goes for an exchange ;)... try that with Midway and they will laugh at you.

I will also add that I believe that there checkered grip/case hardened 58 is one of the finest guns I own. ( and I have Freedom Arms, Rugers, and S&W's to compare to) By comparing the case hardened 58 to my other Pietta 58's, it appears that there is more attention to detail on the case hardened revolver as well.

I own a pair of Piettas in both barrel lengths, and that's the best way I've heard it explained yet.

On the other hand, the extra 2.5 inches makes a BIG difference on the draw. Personally I hate using my "big" guns during competition because it forces me to bend my wrists to uncomfortable angles. (Other prefer to do "the dance" while drawing to avoid this problem, but I never liked that.)

kyle-vick

one other question, what exactly do I need to use to shoot a .44? Say what size balls? How much and what brand/type powder? Ive never shot black powder and so not know exactly what to get.

Major 2

Freedom has offered some good points .

For your first purchase ( yes ! you will probably buy another and maybe another  ;))

Cabala's offers a shooter's starter kit or package ( it's OK but I don't like the plastic Flask that comes with it )

I'd suggest a brass flask, Piettas like .454 Balls ( though .451 work too) Speer offers both so you can try for your best accurate
load.
I'd start with 21 Grains of 3fff BP. ( Goex , Swiss Elephant ) I like Goex
You might want an in-line capper and you'll need caps... CCI , Remington , and RWS are good brands.
Get a nipple wrench, and Bore Butter ( Later you may like Pearl Lube or you own mix ) is a good start.

I can't stress enough a good cleaning kit, these are not pricey ( Cabala's has some the one in the wood case is about $20 )
Clean your gun after every days shooting, your Remington will out last you  ;)

kyle-vick

Awesome, thank you very much for the good info. I have a couple cleaning kits so I am good there and next time I go to town I will see if I can track down the supplies I need.

Thanks again to everyone,
Kyle

Is it #11 caps they use?

I find that Remington #10 caps work best on my Pietta Remington.

Wolfgang

Playing with them and finding what works for you is part of the fun of Cap & Ball shooting.

I use CCI # 11 caps.  Just cuz they was avaiable and they worked so why try anthing else ?

Use Lyman swaged .457 dia round balls.

Lube with a 50/50 mix of toilet bowl wax and olive oil.

Clean with Weazil Piss.

Working good for me.  :)

Have fun . . . . . .
