When I first started in the craft, I used a lacing chisel to punch my stitching holes. On lighter leather it worked great, but once I started in on 9-10 oz, the chisel would cut into the leather between the holes and the stitching would disappear. Now, I just use a stitching awl and a shallow groove.
The first step of becoming a good shooter is knowing which end the bullet comes out of and being on the other end.

I went with the Hungarian thread from Campbell Bosworth. I havent been using it too long yet, maybe a few months. No problems yet, and I do tend to pull my thread a little tight at times. Havent had anything really get used yet, so maybe it will break under stress.

I did go with the needles that Chuck suggested to me in an earlier post. They are the same ones 10W posted the link to. They are excellent, especially after using the Tandy needles. I never knew a harness needle worked that well... ;)

I've stitched wet leather before but only when I wanted to mold the leather back to cover the stitch line, like on circingle handles where you don't want to wear the stitch line from continuous contact.
