Pietta 1860 wedge shaped bolt

In getting my new Pietta 1860's ready to use, I found that the bolt truly did not fit the cylinder slot.  However the bolt was wedges shaped on the side to be trimmed.  It was also at an angle from front to back, sort of a double wedge.  I trimmed the side, but with the front to back angle, you end up with very little of the bolt's surface fitting into the slot.

Knowing from past experience that fooling with bolts usually leads to a lot of frustration, my question is should I just order bolts for them and start over?  Looking at VTI, parts have sure gone up.

By all means have some spares.
I always have 2-3 spares for bolts, hands, hand springs (++) and trigger/bolt springs.

While a lot of Italian revolver bolts are wedge fit this is 100% wrong. The sides of the bolt should be parallel and narrow enough to fit in the narrowest notch in the cylinder.
and the curve of the top of the bolt should center in the notch and be shaped to make full contact
