Question on rules pertaining to holsters for several different groups

Let me start by saying I want one holster rig that is both suitable for Quick Draw, Cowboy action and NCOWS events. Now I have two Uberti Cattleman guns one is 5.5" and the other is the birdhead gripped 4.5". Now in Quick Draw only one gun and holster is required however after reading the rules for NCOWS they don't allow quick draw rigs but it is vague in their description. So I'm looking at this setup for all groups http://www.rustedfables.com/Full-Rigs/The-Grizzly-Fighter-CFDA.html with a second holster to match and use for a cross draw rig where allowed. Now I'm not one to like all the flash such as concho and other things but will get one holster in 10° Cant and the other in 20° which I will use as a cross draw for some while using it for Quick Draw. The rules for the 3 groups are a bit at odds so I'm hoping to save a bit of money by getting one holster setup for all as the holsters are more expensive than the guns. Thanks for any input on this as well as some things I might ask them to change to make it work.

Howdy joec, the Rusted Fables rig is no different than any of the other popular SASS style rigs. I have the Grizzly and use it for CFDA. The quick draw rigs are usually skelontonized metal lined holsters that look nothing like a western holster, CFDA is not quick draw, they too require a western style holster. The only thing I can think of that would not make them legal for NCOWS is the little deflector tab at the bottom of the holster.  It may be possible to have the leather maker install the tab with a Chicago screw, that way you could remove it when needed, or you could just use a toe plug and forget about the deflector. Good Luck

Howdy joec,
The notched belt and the exposed trigger guard will disqualify it for NCOWS. As a minimum, the front leading edge of the trigger guard must be captured by the leather.

More to the point, I guess, is that NCOWS does not allow any fast drawing, so I think trying to pick a rig that advertises itself as designed specifically for Modern Fast Draw is at cross purposes with the philosophy of NCOWS.

I'd look into the work by Trailrider Leather, to be found here on CAS City.
A $250.00 specialty rig isn't going to make you fast. Practice will. Get a rig you can use for all three and get a feel for each of the disciplines required by each organization. Down the road, if you just feel that Fast Draw is where your heart is telling you to spend bigger bucks, you can always upgrade to a special rig designed for that sport but still have the starter rig good to go anywhere. ;)

(In addition, I'm sure you read the Birdhead is disallowed also, but plenty of shooting classes calling for only one revolver in NCOWS.)

Howdy John, before it sadden you I had already decided to come back and modify my post. The Grizzley I have does not have a notched belt, must be something new he has added. The front edge of the trigger guard is captured on mine. The advice I was gonna give Joec in my modifed post, was to go ahead and get a standard rig like the Long Hunter and and add rubber stopper in the toe when shooting CFDA, that's what I dd in the begining. That way he could have a holster for all occasions. At least I did tell him the option of a Chicago screw or toe plug. Good Luck

Thanks for the answers guys and I can order without the deflector as well as without the notch at the top. The reason I liked this particular holster is the look of it though I want it in dark brown. My tastes tend to run from rough out like the Eastwood holster to little tooling and nothing silver/gold on it. Now I did quick draw decades ago in Miami Florida but not since then have I had the time to mess with it. Now I'm very close to retirement and looking for something to fool with as I never want to play golf again. Been there and done that. Oh and I do own a number off guns, mostly bottom feeders however.  ;)
