Hi Pards, i need to know what kind of glue to use to glue leather to oak.

Chuck 100 yd

I made a couple of strops using oak for the backing and vegie tanned tooling leather for the face.
Dap ,Weldwood contact cement did a great job. I use it to glue up holster seams too. Never had a problem with it.

I've had good results with Barge.

I used Elmers White wood glue to glue leather and felt to oak, works great, but I think most wood glue/ contact glues as posted above by others would or should be just fine.

I have been using Barge as my all around glue for a couple of years now.  The rare occasions that I do have a project that worries me, well, I go to Gorilla Glue but I really do not know for a fact that it is stronger.  Now to add total confusion, I used Tanners Bond for many years before changing to Barge and am now considering going back to it.  After nearly forty years of using white leather glues I never had a major problem that was fixed by going to Barge and I really liked the way white glue worked better.  I was able to apply it quicker and in a thinner layers, it seems to dry just a tad quicker and cleans up easier.  I just hope it will laminate well with metal liners as well as Barge does but a little trial and error will tell.  I'm new at this and wonder if anyone else is using metal liners with white glue?

I wouldn't use white glue for that purpose. White glue depends on getting into the fibers of both sides to make a good bond and metal doesn't have a fibrous surface.

Stick with barge for that purpose.
