I have a 1st generation colt saa, vintage 1899. Somewhere along the line a previous owner replaced the hammer with one of the more modern type. Does anyone know where an original hammer with the correct 1st generation firing pin can be found?

Thanks,

Tater Pickens

Don't know for sure, but maybe Numrich.

Original 1st Gen hammers are expensive and hard to find.  The only place to get them is out of a trashed 1st gen gun, or very rarely one that was a replacement hammer from Colt back in the day and never installed, so there aren't a bunch.  There are also several variations, so if you are trying to put the gun back to original you'll have to know what variation you hammer was.  The closest thing to original, and the one Numrich and several others sell, is a hammer made by USFA.  Even those are around $175.00.  I've seen original first gens go for several hundred dollars.
